Week three - Letters f, g, h, i, j

We are in full swing, following the school routines and completing our morning jobs independently. We have begun  recognising our names amongst others and even practised writing them, ensuring we start on the top left of our whiteboards and write all the letters we see in order. We are teaching the children that our names have a capital letter at the beginning and all the rest are lowercase letters.

We have been singing lots of number songs and alphabet songs along with our favourite nursery rhymes. To support our 'letter a day' this week, we coloured in different flags and talked about the Union Jack and St George's flag, sharing what they represent. Many children recognised other flags too, such as the Welsh flag! We have also painted horse hand prints, created our own gardens using different materials and made jellyfish using beautiful ribbons and a collage of shiny, coloured paper.

A date for your diary: On Friday 17th October, there will be a 'meet the teacher', which is a chance for us to get together after a few weeks in school and I will share with you what will happen next in terms of reading and school and home expectations. It will take place at 2:40pm in the school hall. Hope to see you all there!

Week two - Letter a day.. A - E

This week, we are in full swing and very keen to learn... We have played lots of missing initial sound games, ordering numbers and many counting games. For the rest of this term we will be learning (very lightly) a letter a day. This week has been letters 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd' and 'e'. We have been finding words with the letters in them and also kept ourselves busy attempting to write them with pens, paints, blocks and even water! For the letter 'a' we made animal masks and printed apples with paints. For letter 'b' we printed bugs and built with blocks. For letter 'c' we practised our cutting skills and counted with caterpillars. For the letter 'd', we completed drawings of dinosaurs and for letter 'e' we coloured in pictures of the earth learning where the sea and land is and created eggs with different patterns.

Week one - Our first week... and it has been fabulous!

I am so, so proud of all the children this week taking their first week at school in their stride! We have been busy learning new routines, school and classroom rules, finding where everything is and we even attended two assemblies with the whole school!

Well done Team Squirrels. Have a good rest this weekend. I look forward to another week together.
