Sport & PE

Welcome to our Sports Page
Here you will find details of the vast range of physical activities in which we are involved. Scroll down to view our latest sports news and share in the many activities we have taken part in during this year. Our sport and PE is also celebrated on individual class pages: please take some time to share these with your children by following the 'Classes' link above.
What does our Sport and PE provision look like at Langrish? Our intent...
At Langrish Primary School, we aim to engage and include all children in fun and highly active PE sessions to develop an enjoyment and love for sport, whilst also encouraging a healthy lifestyle that they will carry with them through their lives. We include regular opportunities for all children to be involved in competitive team and individual sport against their peers and participate in intra-school and inter-school competitions. Our curriculum is delivered by highly skilled class teachers and sports coaches, ensuring the children receive a knowledge rich, sequenced curriculum. At Langrish, children develop a lifelong interest in physical activity, as well as developing positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Pupil voice (Article 12 UNCRC) is extremely important in this, with children suggesting sports that they would like to try in their curriculum lessons and after school. This year, Quidditch is on our curriculum as a result of suggestion from the playleaders.
Our skills progression document can be found as an attachment at the bottom of this page together with the presentation made by year 6 for our successful platinum application.
We did it!!

We are delighted to announce that Langrish School, has achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year. This is the highest recognition in the Schools Games mark awards.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. A special thanks to Year 6 who led on the presentation for this award and to everyone who continues to support the school, whatever their interest.
Intra and Inter Sport Competitions
This year we will once again be competing in the School Games Programme with many competitions organised for us by our local SGO (Sara Galliers). These Level 2 competitions (inter school) are in addition to the many sporting opportunities and occasions which take place on a daily basis both in and out of lessons (intra school). All of our pupils take part in two hours of curriculum PE and Sport and many choose to attend lunchtime and after-school clubs. This half-term we have also enjoyed taking part in weekly challenges during our lunch times, competing to be the most active class. So far, the Daily Mile has been the most popular activity but hula hooping has perhaps been the most entertaining!
Sports Values

In every lesson, our pupils are encouraged to observe these values. These help the children to understand that although winning is a positive experience, it is how a team communicates and works together which will ultimately make them successful. Pupils are also encouraged to believe in themselves and always give 100 % at all times.
Sharing our News
We actively encourage all of our pupils to pursue their sporting passions outside of school and we celebrate any achievements in our school newsletter 'The Nutshell'. Click on the 'Newsletters' link above to find out what our pupils have been getting up to outside of school. Our talented youngsters regularly participate in rugby, dancing, swimming and gymnastics to name but a few!

Inclusive Health Check
We ensure that all children have access to a vast array of sporting opportunities regardless of their ability or skill level. To help us achieve this and to audit our current provision, Langrish School has completed the Inclusive Health Check document which in turn gives further ideas and resources for us to aim even higher. This document is also a vital part of the evidence to show our commitment to raising the profile of school sport as part of the School Sports Plan.
School Games Mark
Having been awarded the Gold Level for the School Games Mark for the 4th year running, we have applied for Platinum! This award reflects our outstanding provision for Sport and PE throughout the school, both in curriculum time and outside of school. Thank you to all members of our community who help with coaching, supporting and participating in the wide variety of sports on offer. We look forward to another successful year of sport.
We have Platinum sportsmark until July 2026!
Play Leaders
Thirteen new play leaders from Year 5 have had a super introduction into leadership through taking part in the Play Leader training with Mrs. Galliers (our SGO) and Mr James. Having completed their training, these children can now organise small games and activities for our infant children.
This is what the Play Leaders wrote following their training:
In play leader training, we learnt different techniques and activities to help KS1 children to play a variety of playground games. We also learnt the acronym SPACE which stands for:
· Safety – is everyone safe? Is the game safe for all participants?
· Participants – which age group will play the game? Is it accessible?
· Area – Is the area a suitable size?
· Communication – Explain in an age appropriate manner
· Equipment – How much equipment do we need? Can the game be played without equipment?
We want people to develop new skills while feeling safe, making new friends, having fun and gaining confidence.
Our Play Leaders are part of our School Parliament which meets regularly every week.
What does our sport and PE provision look like at Langrish? Our implementation...
Early Years (Physical Development ELG)
To negotiate space and obstacles safely, with consideration for themselves and others and demonstrate strength, balance and coordination
We have been doing gymnastics and made our own sequence together as a class then made one up individually.
Year 1

Year 1 literally leaping into action in P.E. by practising some core movement skills, including jumping.
The children were challenged to perfect their standing jump technique, thinking about where to fix their gaze, how their knees should be slightly bent, and how to use their arms to add momentum to their jumps.
Year 2

To develop balance, agility and co-ordination in a range of activities
Year 3
Year 4
Year 5
Year 6

Our gymnastics unit at the beginning of Autumn Term develops our prior learning of balances and skills from previous years. We have been creating routines that incorporate these skills and will develop this to use equipment in our routines too!

Hampshire Cup, first round matches, September 2025
Our boys' team played at home to Oliver's Battery and managed a resounding win to take them through to the next round.
“It was great to play together as usually we play against each other when we train.”
“I am looking forward to the next stage in the tournament.”
Meanwhile, ou
r girls' team travelled to Purbrook Juniors where they were unlucky not to go through after conceding a goal in the first half and then narrowly missing an equaliser as their shot on goal rebounded off the crossbar. Great play from the whole team who are looking forward to their next match in the Hampshire Plate.
“I had so much fun taking part in the team for the first time.”
“It was great to take part and I really enjoyed myself.”
Year 5 and 6 Football Festival at Bedales, September 2025
During the second week back, a selection of Year 5 and 6 footballers went to Bedales School to take part in their annual football festival. The Year 6 team showed great teamwork skills and came away with no goals conceded and huge grins on their faces. Meanwhile, our Year 5 team worked hard also, proving to be a dominant side during their matches too.
Congratulations to all the players on their performance!
Highlights from last year, 2024-2025
Year 2 SSG Cross Country, June 2025

Alton Cricket Tournament, June 2025
The annual cricket competition at Alton took place last week and we were pleased to be able to take two teams along, allowing 16 of our Year 6 pupils to take part. The players demonstrated excellent independence and leadership skills, organising themselves and supporting each other beautifully.
SSG Football, June 2025
Two teams of Year 5 and 6 players competed took part in the Small Schools' Group Football Tournament at West Meon. While both teams played well, competing against each other for a place in the semi-finals, Langrish Yellow eventually came out on top. They were delighted to win the final on penalties, showing great grit and determination to hold their nerve under pressure. Well done Langrish, an excellent result!
Basketball County Finals, May 2025
A squad of 8, Year 6 basketball players attended the county finals at Solent University. Over the course of the day, they played the other winning teams from each district with every player managing to score at least one basket! While we did not come away victorious, the players showed great determination and teamwork throughout their games.
Little Bee Netball Festival for LKS2, April 2025
Our Play Leaders were back in action again, this time leading 4 schools in mini netball games before refereeing some short matches. Some of our Year 4 pupils had fun developing their skills during the session alongside pupils from Greatham, Four Marks and St Matthews. It was lovely to hear such positive feedback from staff at the other schools about our Play Leaders, who once again showed their maturity and enthusiasm.

Great Athletes Inspiration
What an inspirational and fun afternoon we had when we were visited by GB athlete and Invictus competitor, Luke Delahunty, earlier this month. Each class worked hard as they were put through their paces in the hall to complete a range of activity drills before we all enjoyed listening to Luke’s story in an end of day assembly. To top it all off, together the children have raised £2888, which has been spent on new sports equipment that they have helped us to select. Thank you for your donations, we will share photos of the new kit next term!
Netball Tournament at Perins, March 2025
Since joining our new Netball Club in September, our players have steadily been developing their skills and tactical understanding of the game each week. Earlier this month, these seven players were selected to put their skills to the test by representing Langrish at the East Hants Netball Tournament, hosted at Perins School. During the afternoon they rotated through positions and played against seven other teams, managing 2 wins.
We look forward to watching them continue to grow in confidence over the coming months. Later this term we will be hosting a team from East Meon who will join our club session to provide further match practice.
Little Bee Netball Festival for KS1, March 2025

What a lovely afternoon of activity we enjoyed this week when our Play Leaders led Key Stage 1 pupils from Langrish, Froxfield and St Matthews in ‘Little Bee’ netball drills. The younger pupils had a great time in the sunshine and our Play Leaders were superb: modelling the games, explaining the rules and supporting the younger pupils’ engagement throughout. Well done Year 5; you were excellent role models!
Cross Country Finals, March 2025
We enjoyed a lovely spring morning in the sunshine when we drove to Down Grange Sports Ground in Basingstoke to watch these six Year 5 and 6 athletes compete in the finals of the Hampshire Cross Country competition. As ever, the field was fierce and even battling to the first corner, in a groups of nearly 200 runners, is an experience but all six completed the challenging course in respectable places. Congratulations to you all!

Cross Country, February 2025
35 of our Key Stage 2 pupils competed in the East Hampshire Cross Country competition at Perins School. Racing against pupils from other schools across the district, they
ran two laps of a very large school field! As ever, Langrish pupils shone not just for their sporting determination but for their support of each other, running alongside peers in other races and cheering them over the line. There were some standout performances with Rosie and Oscar coming in first place in their respective races for Year 3 and 4 runners and six of our Year 5 and 6 runners finishing in the top 12 of their races to qualify for the county finals in March!
Girls' Football Tournament at Bohunt
Our Year 5 and 6 girls’ team headed off to Bohunt to compete against three other local schools. They enjoyed playing together and how they worked as a team but found the unfamiliar surface challenging and the limited time for each match (5 minutes) frustrating at times. Overall, they were proud of their efforts and look forward to playing again!
More Friendly Football Fun, December 2024
This month it was the turn of our Year 5 and 6 girls to take to the astro under floodlights as they visited Oakmoor School to test their skills against St. Matthews. The girls split into two teams and got lots of great match experience as they won, lost and drew their fixtures during the session. As you can see, they had a great time!
Hampshire Cup: round 2, November 2024
Our boys played host to Copnor Junior School in the second round of the Hampshire Cup football tournament this month. They played well as a team with some super passing and possession but they were a very strong opposition. After an exciting second half flurry of goals, the final score was 3-1 to Copnor. Well done to all of the squad and a big thank you to Mr James for overseeing the team throughout.
Friendly Football Fun, November 2024

Our boys' football club had an extra training session this week when they travelled to Oakmoor School to develop their match skills against St Matthew's. They played really well, demonstrating great sportsmanship and resilience. The boys all enjoyed the experience of playing under the floodlights on some great pitches and scoring lots of goals!
Play Leader Training, October 2024

Congratulations to our new team of Play Leaders from Year 5. After writing their letters of application, they were selected to receive a morning of training from our local School Games Co-ordinator, which took place earlier this month. They enjoyed thinking about how to plan their sessions, encourage engagement and the importance of making their games clear and fun. We look forward to seeing them begin to take over from our excellent Year 6 Play Leaders after half term.
