Home learning

Spellings

This week, we would like the children to practise the 'wr' spelling pattern, which makes an /r/ sound, as in write, wrist and wrong. Please encourage your child to practise reading and spelling words containing 'wr' on EdShed. You will find your child's EdShed login details (username and password) inside the front cover of their reading record.

Here are a few fun ways to practise spellings at home:

Rainbow writing: Write each word using a different colour for each letter.

Look, cover, write, check: Look carefully at the word, cover it, write it from memory and then check it.

Word hunt: See how many words containing 'wr' you can find in books or around the house.

Spelling sentences: Challenge your child to write a silly sentence using one or two of their spelling words.

Air writing: Use a finger to spell each word in the air, saying each letter aloud.

Alternatively, you can use the practice sheet attached at the bottom of this page.

Reading: Please make sure you read with your child every day to help develop their reading fluency, confidence and enjoyment of books. You only need to record your child's reading in their reading record three times a week. Reading records will be checked every Friday. As you read together, please encourage your child to answer questions throughout the book and at the end, use the Bloom's Taxonomy questions to develop their understanding, comprehension and thinking skills.

Class reader

This week, Year 2 have been enjoying reading Peace Lily. We have explored the story, discussed the characters and shared our thoughts and predictions. The children have been developing their comprehension skills and thinking carefully about what they have read.

Who is the main character in the story?

What happens to Lily in the story?

How do you think Lily feels? How do you know?

What was your favourite part of the story and why?
