A taste of our Learning

6.11.26 - Marshmallow Monsters

Welcome back! Year 3 have arrived ready to go and have hit the ground running with amazing writing, super science and magnificent multiplication. This week we learnt the story of 'Marshmallows' and started setting the scene, ready to investigate the mischievous mallowdile! In science, we continued our curiosity by learning about vital organs and how the skeleton protects them and in maths we tamed the tricky three times table. We even had time to set up a long term study, using some left over Halloween pumpkins to explore how long it takes food to decompose. Of course, what we really enjoyed was all our Forest School fun! Well done Year 3!

23.10.26 - Mary Rose Calling!

We made it! After a marathon first half-term our tired, yet mighty Year 3s are ready for a well-earned rest. Just to be sure that they were tired enough, Mr Gillard marched them around the Portsmouth historic dockyards to explore the incredible Mary Rose museum. They had a great time, but may be feeling just a little bit fatigued after all their hard work. Well done Year 3!  A great day out and you showed off all your amazing learning on the topic.

16.10.26 - Word Wranglers

This week our wonderful Year 3s reached the end of their Lost Words journey, by creating narrative pieces about the words returning. These were spectacular and showed real strength across the whole class. We then moved on to poetry and thinking about how we could perform poems. In history we have explored the story of The Mary Rose after it sank and in art we prepared backgrounds for our Keith Haring-inspired figures to explore. Well done Year 3!

9.10.26 - Fearless Fronted Adverbials!

This week, Year 3 have taken on two of the greatest challenges that they can face in their current curriculum. Working as hard as they could, they tackled column subtraction with exchanges and the devious 'fronted adverbial'!  With pleasure, I can say that they have met their challenge and then some! With their sweetest voices, they created samba rhythms in music to continue their unit working on beat and patterns. Amongst the mess of the classroom, they even had time to make some super colour collages in their artwork. Well done everyone!

2.10.26 - Magnet Magic

This week, our Year 3s have continued their quest for interesting words by using noun-verb pairs and descriptions of colour in their Lost Words poetry writing, ready to write their acrostics next week! In maths, we have begun learning the mighty column addition and subtraction, which forms the backbone of their calculation skills in maths. For some true awe and wonder, the children also got hands on with a magnets experiment, performing some magical levitation!

25.9.26 - Kenning Creators and Elite Editors

This week our Year 3s really got cracking on their Y3 curriculum! We looked at the poem Kingfisher from The Lost Words and noticed some tricky language with hyphens called kennings! We created some to describe us and even thought about how we could use them to describe other things too. In maths we have been busily doodling jottings to help us with addition and subtraction and we took a bit of time to show our funkiest dance moves in music as we learnt The Learning Rap and grooved out to The Dinosaur Rap! Well done Year 3!

18.9.26 - Gorgeous Graffiti!

This week our Year 3 explorers have been beavering away on all sorts of things! We have been writing our own versions of The Black Hat, tackling tricky number lines in maths and trying to explain what we know about magnets in science. We also considered what changes we would like to see in the world during our World Faith lesson. I'm sorry to break it to you, but we probably won't have a bring pets to school day or a roller-coaster in the hallway any time soon. In art, we examined some incredible Keith Haring artwork, discussed graffiti ethics and then had a go at creating our own 'tag'!

11.9.26 - Creativity, Community and...Christmas Cards?!

This week our Y3 superstars continued to learn all the ins and outs of what it takes to be a model Y3! We created our class charter and discussed what rights we should be able to enjoy at school and how we can help protect those. In English, we continued our writing around The Black Hat, using prepositions and figurative language to create interesting takes on the tale. In history, we created a hallway timeline all the way back to 1509 to explore the span of time since The Mary Rose was built and amongst all this learning, Mr Gillard must have begun pining for another holiday as we started making Christmas cards! Coming soon, to a postbox near you...

4.9.26 - Welcome back!

Welcome back to our brand new Year 3s! They have had a super first couple of days and hit the ground running with our new room, all their lovely new pencil case tools and (of course) some new stories to explore! Well done everyone!
